StoryBrand Workshop with Moxie Tonic What a day! We just put on our first-ever live StoryBrand workshop and we can’t wait to tell you all about it. Our team of StoryBrand Certified guides taught business owners in the Colorado Springs area about the 7-part StoryBrand framework and helped them apply it to their own business’ messaging so they can dial in their websites, social media, sales funnels and more. Let’s take a look at what we covered.

StoryBrand was created by bestselling author, Donald Miller, after he realized that most businesses waste thousands of dollars on marketing that falls short. Why? Because it’s confusing, full of jargon, and isn’t directed toward the right people–its audience. Using his extensive knowledge of story from his career as a novelist and screenwriter, he created the 7-part StoryBrand framework–a way to apply a business’ knowledge about their audience and needs using the universal parts of the story. This includes:

  • What the audience needs
  • What problems are standing in their way
  • How the business can relate to the audience’s problems
  • A clear call to action
  • Successes that the audience can enjoy
  • Failures that the audience can avoid

By using these pieces of story, businesses can speak to what the audience is looking for–an answer to their problem. Whether an audience is looking for a way to keep their kids healthy or are looking to achieve financial freedom, StoryBrand messaging will help an audience immediately see how a business can help them achieve those goals.

Building (and understanding) a StoryBrand framework

At our live StoryBrand workshop, our founder, creative director, and OG Certified StoryBrand Guide, Natalie Gowen, led the discussion, taking our participants through each piece of the 7-part StoryBrand framework. Using examples from Donald Miller’s book, Building a StoryBrand, and from our work with clients, Natalie explained why each piece of the framework was important, and how to pick out the most important ideas for each section. After Natalie’s explanation, the fun began! Our team of certified guides (we’re a Storybrand Certified Agency, which means that all of our team members of certified guides, from the creative leads to the writers, graphic designers, and developers) worked with each participant to fill our their framework and start putting together their BrandScript–the foundational “story” that they can use in their marketing.

Applying StoryBrand to Websites, Sales Funnels, and More

StoryBrand Workshop with Moxie TonicA BrandScript, no matter how dialed-in, isn’t of any use if it stays on your hard drive. That’s why, after helping our participants create their BrandScripts, we talked in-depth about how to use them in their marketing efforts. We talked

  • elevator pitches
  • email nurture campaigns
  • homepage wireframes
  • SEO
  • Sales funnels

And more, using examples from our own client work. Like how StoryBrand helped unify the marketing efforts for all of the different programs at the University of Denver Daniel L. Ritchie Center for Sports and Wellness, and how StoryBrand sales funnels helped a dental coaching company increase sales by 1200%, and how StoryBrand wireframes helped a multi-location senior living company’s website increase users by nearly 200% and lower cost per acquisition by 60%.  That’s the StoryBrand magic, folks.
